Sixth Form Admissions
West Kirby has a successful Sixth Form where students achieve outstanding results, receive excellent advice and guidance and enjoy first-class pastoral support.
Applications are welcomed from both female and male students who studied at other schools for their GCSEs. Approximately 35 - 40 new students join West Kirby's Sixth Form each year. New students flourish and enjoy studying at West Kirby. They are elected to be school officers and participate fully in the wider life of the school.
We look after new students and ensure that they are well supported in their first few weeks in the school. The induction programme is an exciting and fun way to be introduced to Sixth Form life at West Kirby and a great way to make new friends.
All students wishing to enter the Sixth Form must achieve at least 5 GCSEs at grade 6/B or above with Mathematics at Grade 5 or better and English at grade Grade 5 or better.
Students should generally have GCSEs at grade 6/B or better in the subjects they wish to study at Advanced level.
In order to study Mathematics, a Grade 7 in GCSE Maths is essential (Further Maths requires Mathematics GCSE at Grade 8+).
Certain sixth form subjects require only Grade 5 rather than Grade 6.
Please therefore see the Sixth Form Course Guide here for all subject entry requirements.
Which courses do you offer?
WKGS is proud to offer 28 courses in the Sixth Form. This is considerably more than many schools with sixth forms. For more information about our "free-choice" option blocking, please see our Option Choices page. We do not prescribe option blocks in advance as these are constructed shortly after our February deadline for applications.
How many subjects can I study at WKGS?
Sixth Form students may choose to study THREE or FOUR subjects in our Sixth Form. Students wanting to take four subjects will typically complete one to AS level and should have 7/As or better predicted in most subjects. More information can be found on the Curriculum page.
An Open Evening is being held on Wednesday 22 November. We welcome students to visit WKGS between 6pm-8pm to tour the school, meet staff and students in each department and listen to our Headteacher's address.
How to Apply
The closing date for applications to Sixth Form is Thursday 15 February 2018. However, we suggest you get your application to us as soon as possible as we start to invite students to WKGS to offer individual advice and guidance regarding subject choices from December onwards.
